Central Region
This unspoiled, forested region boasts a history as tall and prodigious as its mighty spruce, birch and pine trees. Several historic sites recount the life and times of the Beothuks, Newfoundland’s mysterious aboriginal people that once inhabited the area. Off the main highway, along the Northeast Coast, a different landscape beckons visitors. This sailor’s paradise features thousands of inlets, coves and islands with fabulous sea vistas, historic theatre, friendly fishermen, great whale-watching opportunities and iceberg watching, especially at Twillingate in Notre Dame Bay.
