Nova Scotia

Known as Canada’s seacoast, Nova Scotia sets the scene for picture-perfect tours.  Almost entirely surrounded and shaped by the sea, we boast 11 distinct travelways to transport you to new worlds of adventure and beauty. Each of these travelways is tailor-made for touring and within striking distance of each other.

With over 7600 kms (4,700 miles) of seacoast, it’s easy to understand why Nova Scotia is defined by its relationship with the sea and boasts some of the most amazing natural wonders and diverse landscape.  There is no shortage of ways to discover our natural beauty, authentic experiences and renowned hospitality.

Spend a day amid the natural marvel of the Bay of Fundy, and witness whales breaching in the highest tides of the world.  Watch the tide rise over 40 feet and six hours later the tide flows back out allowing for beachcombing on 100,000 acres of red ocean floor.

Tour the world-famous Cabot Trail - 300km (185 miles) of scenic coastal highway. Considered one of the most scenic drives in the world, the Cabot Trail winds around the rocky splendour of Cape Breton’s northern shore, ascending to the incredible plateaus of the Highlands.

Explore the seacoast city of Halifax.  A significant port city since its founding.  The largest city in Atlantic Canada, Halifax welcomes visitors with a bustling waterfront, international restaurants, galleries, museums, theatre, wonderful music and historical landmarks.

Nova Scotia offers the best living history in Canada.  Re-live the stories of our province’s rich living history through our world-class attractions.   At the largest historic reconstruction in North America, Fortress of Louisbourg, you can still hear the battle cries.   You can get to know the amazing mind and heart behind the inventor of the telephone-Alexander Graham Bell- at the National Historic Site in Baddeck. The blazing red buildings of Lunenburg, a UNESCO world-heritage site, mark the waterfront home of the Bluenose II, the replica of the famous racing schooner.  You can begin to
understand the significance of Grand Pre National Historic Site as you the hear the story of the expulsion of the Acadians. At Pier 21, you can stand in the place where almost any Canadian can trace their European ancestory.

Nova Scotians love to celebrate and when we celebrate, we invite the world.  Culture and history abounds in this vastly diverse piece of the world offering a festival extravaganza-from Highland Games to Acadian celebrations.  Join us for North America’s largest indoor show, the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo; or tap your toes at a ceilidh during Celtic Colours International Festival.  Nova Scotia is a land overflowing with music and bursting with seacoast traditions.  For centuries our
forefathers have filled our land with seafaring values that shaped our lives and our people.  Mi’kmaq, Acadian, English, Scottish, Irish, African and German cultures have come together over the centuries to form the rich mosaic of who we are.  You can’t escape the heart-warming effect that Nova Scotia music has on your soul.

You’ll also find a wide range of culinary and entertainment delights in Nova Scotia, offering something to suit every taste. Settle into a cozy tearoom for a melt-in-your-mouth homemade blueberry scone and big pot of tea. Dive into a big bowl of rich, creamy seafood chowder overflowing with succulent lobster, shrimp and scallops. Or sit back and relax in an opulent dining room, and savour the delectable dishes created by award-winning chefs with fresh, local ingredients.  For yet another treat, Nova Scotia’s wineries produce wonderful
world-class vintages.

Whatever your perfect day is, you can have it in Nova Scotia. Immerse yourself in our natural beauty.  Taste the incredible seafood.  Listen to world-renowned music. But most of all enjoy the legendary, down-home hospitality.

Four great seasons, one great region!
Nova Scotia - Four Star Attractions All Year Round

Nova Scotia’s combination of sensational scenery, small-town charm, fabulous festivals and fascinating history make it the ideal destination for every season.  Add to this our friendly people and four-star attractions; our cosmopolitan cities and spectacular coastal highways and you have the ultimate recipe for a great group getaway — anytime!

Summer Sensations
From sunset cruises, to lobster boils, to bird watching treks and wine tasting trips, Summer is the time to savor Nova Scotia’s sun-speckled seacoast. While the province’s extensive Living History can be experienced at any time of the year, summer is the most popular season for viewing such extraordinary attractions as Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, among others. Treat your tour to a summer celebration – there’s always a party happening somewhere in Canada’s Festival Province, all summer long – or give them the gift of great golf. Nova Scotia is
quickly gaining a reputation as a golf capital and is garnering the accolades to match. Visit
www.golfnovascotia.com for more information.  National Parks, historical settlements, theatre troupes, vibrant nightlife, delectable dining…it’s all here in Nova Scotia.

Fall Fun
The dazzling palate of fall foliage that dresses the province during the months of September and October — and sometimes even a little longer — is a signal that Nova Scotia’s deciduous trees, shrubs and plants are getting ready for winter. And what a dramatically colorful period of preparation it is! Autumn in Nova Scotia means it’s time to celebrate the harvest, and we do it up in style here with an equally diverse parade of festivals to match those firey colors of autumn. October, which is the month of Canada’s Thanksgiving holiday, is a particularly magical time in Nova Scotia. It’s the time when the Pumpkin People come to life, when village fairs are in full swing, and when the internationally renowned Celtic Colours International Festival in Cape Breton explodes with music and song as vibrant as the season that inspires it. From thrilling theatre, to captivating historical re-enactment, fall adventures in Nova Scotia are rich with the spirit of autumn. And don’t forget that the days are comfortably warm and the evenings sweater-cool, perfect climate conditions for touring groups.

Winter Wonders
Winter in Nova Scotia is all-action-packed all season long. After all, this is Canada’s "ceilidh" province and the arrival of the snows of winter only afford more opportunities to celebrate. Nova Scotia’s crystalline landscapes, superb ski hills, and seemingly endless miles of groomed snowmobile and ski trails open up the beauty of the chilliest season for all to enjoy. Winter festivals, ice-sculpting contests, winter sports carnivals… the list of winter activities in Nova Scotia goes on forever. And that’s only the outdoors. Indoors, fireside lounges, seaside retreats, big-city nightlife and  professional sporting events vie for the attention of residents and visitors alike. So head for the hills or retreat to the shores, it’s winter in Nova Scotia and there’s no better time to have fun!

Spring Surprises
The changing seasons signal a new beginning —
a time to start the year afresh. And nowhere is this more true than in Nova Scotia where spring blooms with a fresh bouquet of vacation ideas. Spring is a time to tour our great coastal highways, to sample the succulent seafood and fresh-picked produce, perhaps to take to the fragrant, earthy trails of our National Parks for superb hiking, cycling, even kayaking. Springtime festivals in Nova Scotia celebrate this special time of renewal and rebirth, and the Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival, which drapes the entire region in a sea of pink blossoms, is one such festival your group won’t want to miss. Spring on Canada’s Seacoast — there’s always something to celebrate!
