Moose Watching
Dec. 8, 2004
Moose are densely populated in the state of Maine and widespread in the Maine Lakes and Mountains area. If your group members are looking to see one of these large mammals, it is best to look during the late spring to mid-summer and the month of September, usually in the morning or from noon to 2 pm. Some known areas to spot a moose are Route 16: Rangeley to Stratton and Rangeley/Oquossoc to Wilsons Mills or Route 17: Rangeley/Oquossoc to Rumford. Make sure your group is aware during their search that moose do have poor eyesight, but have an excellent sense of hearing and smell. In the proper season and with additional attention your group can view and take pictures of these fascinating animals in their own surroundings.
