Museum Expansion
The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem will be a lot bigger in 2003! The Grand Opening of an 111,000 square foot addition, designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie, is scheduled for June 2003. This will allow space for exhibits from all of the Museum's finest collections for the first time in its history. Also on the slate are new galleries, a 165-seat auditorium, and a fully reconstructed late-Qing-Dynasty house from China. Michael Van Valkenburg, celebrated landscape architect, has designed a beautiful new public garden and memorial park, dedicated to the region's rich military history.
