La Vieille prison de Trois-Rivières Your visit to the Old Prison of Trois-Rivières promises to be a “very strong, very real and sometimes disturbing experience”. See what prison life was really like in this prison restored to its operating condition. Built in 1822 and designated a historic monument in 1978, before it closed in 1986 it was actually the oldest functional corrections establishment in all of Canada. This is your chance to see what it was like for inmates while the prison was in use. You'll be able to imagine what it would have been like for more than a hundred inmates to be packed into the prison which was originally only meant to hold forty.
Musée québécois de culture populaire Along with the permanent exhibition Go to Jail! (your visit to the Old Prison of Trois-Rivières) the museum also offers the permanent Open Storage Area exhibition, showing you how the Museum's collections are stored. Visiting the Robert-Lionel-Séguin open storage area will explain how the collections are preserved though time, and how they are refurbished and stored. You'll even get the opportunity to, under the guides' supervision, wrap and store objects yourself. The museum's collection now boasts more than 70,000 items, including the Robert-Lionel-Séguin collection, so you'll have plenty to see and learn about when you take a trip to The Québec Museum of Folk Culture.
Pulp and Paper Industry Exibition Center Groups will enjoy the Traditional Guided Tour where they will hear the story of the paper workers from the early 20th century to modern times. You'll see how these workers contributed to the region's economy and how their manner of working, and their working conditions, has changed in the meantime. Along with the Traditional Guided Tour, there are the Experiment Tour and the Theatrical Tour. The Theatrical Tour's host, Tom Caribou, will delight your group with hummed melodies of long ago, and stories of folklore and anecdotes.
Le Magasin Général Le Brun Recognized by the Quebec Ministry of Culture as a historic site in 1981, the site was opened to the public in January 1997 after its restoration was complete. One store was built in 1827, another was built in 1803 (but then later moved beside the first store), and the third some time later and its size and layout made it an ancestor of the modern shopping centre. In the summer, visitors are welcomed to the guided tour of the site and an opportunity to the collection of items from the past. There are fall activities as well and also an exhibition hall where models from Clement Plante are on display.
Visites guidées de Trois-Rivières Your best chance to experience everything that Trois-Rivières has to offer is during your guided tour. Benjamin Sulte (1841-1923), the famous historian and poet, will be your guide as you take in everything around you, like the area's history and heritage. The festivals, legends, and industries unique to Trois-Rivières will fascinate you and everyone else in your group. You'll see downtown, the outskirts, and the historic district, so not a piece of the exciting history and culture will be missed, and this tour is certainly not something you'll want to miss, either.
