Explorers Take Note…
It’s not the autobahn, but the accurately dubbed Freedom Road in Labrador has opened up a new corner of North America to adventurous travelers. You can drive north through Quebec to Labrador, cross this huge territory on a mainly gravel road all the way to the Strait of Belle Isle, board a ferry to Newfoundland, drive down Newfoundland’s west coast, and take another ferry to Nova Scotia. Or you could do it the other way around. The Labrador road is so remote you’re advised to take along a free satellite phone because there’s no cell coverage. It’s just you and the road.
