The Pas
The Pas, known as the "Gateway to the North," is actually three distinct communities: the Town of The Pas, The Opaskwayak Cree Nation, and the rural municipality of Kelsey, which includes the farming community, Wanless and village of Cranberry Portage. Major events include the Chamber's Annual Trade Show and Sale, Northern Manitoba Trappers' Festival, Opaskwayak Indian Days, agricultural fair and exhibition, and the Bill Bannock Fishing Classic.
Sam Waller Museum contains the unique and extensive natural and human history collections of
Sam Waller, a teacher and passionate collector. Housed in the former Community Building and Court House, a provincial designated heritage building built in 1916, the museum exhibits tell the fascinating stories of this historic community and region.
Heritage North Museum consists of two log structures and an open-air blacksmith shop. See mounted animals native to the area, a boreal forest diorama with authentic caribou hide tipi, First Nations and fur trade artifacts, fossils, a wooly mammoth tusk, traveling exhibits and Inco and mining related artifacts. Blacksmith demonstrations occur periodically throughout the summer.
