Gimli
The name comes from ancient Norse mythology and means “Home of the Gods”. Located on the west shore of the world's tenth largest freshwater lake, Gimli is the capital of New Iceland and home to the largest Icelandic population outside of Iceland.
New Iceland Heritage Museum
The Museum is dedicated to preserving and presenting this fascinating chapter of Manitoba's history. Begin with the film "New Iceland Saga" telling the story of one pioneer family through the eyes and experiences of four generations. Inside the museum you will find a painting that comes to life, a full size tent and pioneer cabin and a Saga & Legends gallery for the children.
