Weyburn

This thriving city is a central distribution point for the area’s wealth of oil, grain and cattle industries, making it the largest inland grain gathering point in the country. The area is also known for its exceptional game bird hunting.

Soo Line Historical Museum
Located on the banks of the Souris River, this museum is housed in the 1909 Weyburn Electric Light and Machine Company building. Collections include district pioneer artifacts and archives, artifacts from the Saskatchewan Mental Hospital 1921-2004 and other local and regional items. The feature attraction is the museum’s Charles Wilson silver collection, the largest one-man collection of silver known to exist, consisting of over 5,000 items.

Weyburn Crocus Tour
While at the Soo Line Historical Museum, pick up a free tour guide booklet for this 12-stop driving tour of Weyburn’s historic sites. The tour begins at the Soo Line, and is well marked with crocus signs throughout the city. Highlights include renowned author W.O. Mitchell’s former residence (exterior viewing), Weyburn’s first hospital, and historically significant Native sites.
