Doukhobor Village Museum
Learn of the fascinating history and culture of the Doukhobors, Russian immigrants who came to Canada at the turn of the century, settling in the Kootenays from 1908 to 1938, in the orchard land they named Fructova, meaning “Valley of Fruit.” Permanent and changing exhibits are presented in an authentically reconstructed village, and include the petch (bread baking oven), wood-fired banya (sauna) and clothing made from naturally dyed fabrics.

Zuckerberg Island Heritage Park
Near the town of Castlegar your group can travel back more than 3,000 years in time at the Zuckerberg Island Heritage Park. The Island has been home to various peoples over the centuries, dating back to the first Salish people who built their winter pit houses here. There is a reconstructed pit house on the island. Visit the restored Russian Orthodox Chapel House, built by Alexander Zuckerberg in the 1940s, or cross the suspension bridge to the mainland and visit the Hiroshima Memorial and its beautiful peace garden, built in 1985.
