Fort Chipewyan
Although only accessible by river or air, Fort Chipewyan offers a truly unique experience to visitors wanting a glimpse of Alberta’s true north. On the border of Wood Buffalo National Park, this town is in a friendly rivalry with Fort Vermilion to be the oldest settlement in the province (1788). While visiting, be sure to take in the Bicentennial Museum and the Roman Catholic Church featuring murals painted with local blueberry and cranberry juices mixed with fish oils.
