Captain Cook's Trail and Admiral Palliser’s Trail
Captain Cook’s Trail (Route 450) is a journey through history that offers spectacular views of the Bay of Islands at every turn. It is the landscape that Captain James Cook explored and recorded in 1767. The road follows the South Shore of the Bay of Islands through fishing communities to the salty, blue waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Admiral Palliser’s Trail (Route 440) follows the North Shore of the Bay of Islands, winding on for 50km. This scenic drive is named after Sir Hugh Palliser, one time governor of Newfoundland.
