Bala

Bala, located in the Township of Muskoka Lakes, is “The Cranberry Capital of Ontario”. The Bala Cranberry Festival is a three-day festival taking place at multiple locations and offers great fun for everyone. Live entertainment, tours of the marsh, food vendors, arts and crafts and a farmer’s market.

Bala’s Museum with Memories of Lucy Maud Montgomery has become one of Canada’s best-known L.M. Montgomery sites. Lucy Maud Montgomery, famous for Anne of Green Gables, also wrote a Muskoka novel, The Blue Castle, after a Bala holiday in 1922. The museum has an Anne of Green Gables gift shop, one of the best collections of LMM’s books and other artifacts.
