Kittery
Fort McClary Blockhouse Historic Site
Fort McClary stood for more than 275 years protecting the approaches to the Piscataqua River at the southern gateway to Kittery. It was manned during five wars including the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, Spanish-American War and World War I. The buildings on site represent several different periods of history, as the fort was upgraded and modified to meet the defensive needs of the area. This makes a wonderful stop for historyseeking school groups or special interest tours.
