Located on the west bank of the St. Croix River, Calais is Maine’s busiest border crossing with Canada at St. Stephen, New Brunswick.
St. Croix Island International Historic Site
The first European settlement in North America north of Florida. Samuel de Champlain and Sieur de Monts established the settlement here on St. Croix Island, just south of Calais, in 1604, and today visitors can experience the history at this international historic site.
